I didnt understand exactly what you would like to do, but you can use 
any XPath Expression:

href="../glossary.xml#xpointer(/glossary/glossentry/glossdef) to 
catch all glossdefs
to get the glossdef of the last glossentry

XPointer is just an XPath Expression.
