Note: all documents mentionned in this thread are freely available,
but they're not in the public domain.

I'd add:

- "Docbook: the definitive guide" (http://docbook.org/tdg/en/)
- Some of the documentation of the Linux kernel (in the
Documentation/docbook/ directory in the kernel source tree)
