Subject: Re: [Fwd: Re: Draft agenda (RE: [ebxml-bp] Reminder on today's call inabout 1 hour. 9 a.m. PST Tues 14 Dec 2004]

Layna,
A few comments, questions or suggestions on the BPM Think Tank event in
March 2005. I am encouraged that this event is moving forward and see it
as important to the business process community.

    * Who will be addressing the standards landscape session from each
organization and what will be the level of the discussion? There
may be several potentially complementary (at a minimum) efforts
across these organizations. Is the premise to overview the
standards landscape or enable mechanisms to encourage
collaboration, interoperability and/or eventual convergence? This
should also focus on the Closing the Gap discussions.
o This session should focus early on cohering
            requirements-technology development. Suggest this be
introduced earlier than the end of the second day (Standards
            Landscape Part II).
    * On elevator pitch session, is this business requirements that need
to be met or aren't, or is this purely focused on technology
preferences? I think a key value this Think Tank event could
enable is how to focus on the business needs to understand the
technology development required. There is currently a gap between
what is needed and what the focus of the technology is. This
should supplement the Closing the Gap discussions.
o See Standards Landscape Part II comment above.
    * On Day 2, suggest there be a broader discussion about BPMN to
enable BPM broader than just BPEL. This will set the baseline for
the entire set of sessions and show the value and use of BPMN. The
same holds true for BPXL. There are multiple standards or evolving
specifications that may be considered for collaboration,
transactions, etc. Will this be part of the BPXL discussion?
    * I would still recommend the program team consider shorter sessions
and no-overlap events to get the breadth of the knowledge and
community involved. I understand it is a difficult problem but
      important nonetheless.

Thanks, Layna for this opportunity. Please let me know if you need an
abstract of the ebXML sessions other than the agenda that you provided.
Happy Holidays. Regards.
