Subject: RE: [egov] e-Gov: Distributing confidential information
David, Didn't IBM secure a patent for an OASIS spec last year. How was that resolved? Should not the standards adoption process avoid this mess! john John Weiler ICH Architecture Resource Center "From Architectures to Implementation Reality" +1-703-768-0400 (ph) +1-703-765-9295 (fx) +1-800-733-6687 (toll free) <http://www.ICHnet.org> <http://www.SecurE-Biz.net> See you in Washington DC at the Spring SecurE-Biz CxO Summit; April 1-2. -----Original Message----- From: David RR Webber - XML ebusiness [mailto:Gnosis_@compuserve.com] Sent: Sunday, February 16, 2003 12:28 PM To: Anders Rundgren Cc: pki-tc@lists.oasis-open.org; egov@lists.oasis-open.org Subject: Re: [egov] e-Gov: Distributing confidential information Absolutely unbelievable. This patent has to be challengable. I had publically available documents four years ago that was promoting a "drop bag" project of exactly this and even setup domains for it. The sponsors had other issues which stopped it being funded by the USGov for reporting to the EPA at the state level for regulatory compliance. Next we'll find out that someone has a patent on a mechanism for opening doors and windows using a computer system. : -( DW. Message text written by Anders Rundgren > Oops! I have off-list just been informed that this method [unfortunately] is patented by Tumbleweed Communications. I was encouraged to buy some of their shares as well...
