Subject: Re: [egov] Tactics on data alignment / standardization
Message text written by Eliot Christian >To me, it seems the GML approach is to use XML Schema as a tool for representing semantic relationships as well as data type syntax.< Eliot, Agreed. Not the first time I've seen that done either. You are just left with the feeling there has to be a better way! Getting the data into the system in the first place is a real challenge too. I've been especially focusing on "common patterns" approach recently. I think we need to get back there as a way of enhancing productivity with XML. While to date the approach has been to architect the XML for every conceivable permutation - the issue is then that you cannot see the simple obvious use patterns. The reverse approach is the minimalist one of providing the core patterns that obey the 80:20 rule - and then create specialist patterns later - if the need arises. Users can then get the bulk of work done quickly by recognizing their use pattern and interacting with it. Thanks, DW
