Subject: OASIS E-GOV TC : XML.ORG CONTENT PARTNER

Colleagues
We discussed the proposal to join the XML.org Content Partner scheme at the TC meeting last week and concerns were raised about the implications of the site being interpreted as setting out government policy.  To counter this OASIS is offering to include disclaimers as set out below.

Here is the statement we would add at the top of the site's main page:

**********
The XML.org Focus Area on e-Government serves as a central clearinghouse
for information on XML and related standards for the public sector. This
resource is provided by OASIS <link> with editorial management from
members of the OASIS e-Government Technical Committee <link>, an open
forum where Governments internationally voice their needs and
requirements for XML-based standards.
**********

In addition, we will include a disclaimer like this on the footer of every page in the e-Gov Focus Area:

*********
Members of the OASIS e-Government Technical Committee offer editorial
management of this Focus Area in a goodwill effort to provide an
unbiased information resource to the community at-large. XML.org content
does not necessarily represent an official position of OASIS, nor of any
of its members or the governments and other organizations with which
they are associated.
**********

Personally I think this sends out the right message and would be happy to proceed on this basis.  Could members let me have their views and any suggested amendments to the wording please by close next Tuesday, 11th November.  Unless I hear of any continuing objections by that date I will ask OASIS to set up the site.

John
