Subject: Re: [egov] GIS and realtime eGov service responses

Carl,

Terrific.

We should definately setup something so we can leverage all
this and point from the eGov TC to the right places.

Thanks, DW

David -

I would strongly encourage members of this TC to visit the OpenGIS Consortium web site (www.opengis.org) and see what the OGC members have been doing WRT defining and adopting freely available interface and encoding specifications specifically targeted to enabling interoperability of geospatial data, services, and applications. Many of our interface specifications are targeted for use in web based applications, such as spatially enabled E-Gov portals. One specification (based on XML and XML Schema), called the Geography Markup Language (GML), enables vendor/source format neutral interchange of geospatial data (vector and raster)

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Subject: [egov] GIS and realtime eGov service responses

This seems such as important development that I'm thinking
it deserves a sub-team to build-out use cases, lessons
learned, and go-forward planning.

The ability to exchange information between GIS and
databases has long been a critical ability to leverage.

I spent years out in Saudi writing programs that looked
at the CAD systems of the international airports facilities
and figured out maintenance and support details from
the mainframe logistics databases.

The next level seems to be using XML to exchange
important information between systems - and being
able to respond to requests and dynamic needs /
queries in realtime.

This technology definately has significant implications
on many levels.

DW.
