John
et al.,
It may
be worth while taking some of the 'Governmental' messaging issues that I raised
in the 'ebXML Messaging within Governmental' working draft paper and
applying that to the WS web services arena as a starting point for
discussion. Most of the issues are the same, although the resolution may
be slightly different. An ideal solution although could be for the same
e-Gov extensions for Government Messaging to be applied to both ebXML and WE Web
Services.

Now that Web Services seem to have
reached a good level of maturity we here in the UK are considering when and how
we should deploy them to support our e-government service delivery plans.
For example should our future architecture dictate that everything be
deployed as a WS or is it a case of WS are more appropriate for different types
of services. A colleague of ours has produced the attached discussion
document which attempts to answer this question and I'd welcome your views on
this and any experience you already have of deploying WS for Gov applications.
There may be some value in
the TC producing a guidance document on this for wider consumption.
What do you think?
Within
Europe it may be necessary to agree on this if we are to support the concept of
joined-up pan-European services so such a document might be valuable input to
deliberations in Brussels.

John
