Subject: Agenda Item for Next Meeting: Sponsoring and MaintainingReference Implementations
Hi Everyone, With our pate as full as it was today, I decided not to introduce this topic today. So I would like to propose it for our next meeting's agenda: Should we include reference implementations of EM Standards on SourceForge as part of our charter. I have an EDXL-RM Reference Implementation that is 95% done and I am looking for a suitable group to which I can hand if off. This is a lead up to a proposal that the EM TC sponsor reference implementations for each of its standards as a way to provide an example for all implementations such that whatever set of a standard's features a vendor decides to implement within an application, an example will be available which the vendor can use as a starting point to build upon. This would also serve to help such third-parties as the NIMS Support Center to provide testing services to certify interoperability of vendor applications. So, this would serve as a way to encourage adoption and develop higher levels of interoperability than would be possible without reference implementations. I think this requires serious thought and discussion because it represents a significant investment of future time and effort.
