Subject: MAP report outreach request draft text.

Mobile Alerting Practices, Outreach request.

Dear friends,

Did you know that many more people are thinking what you are thinking?

The GSM association, which represents the interests of mobile network has studied the matter of mobile alerting and has concluded that Cell Broadcast, as one of the many other distribution methods, has advantages to their networks and their regulatory authorities, that are now well understood.

Many countries are thinking about their own implementation of Cell Broadcast systems. It would be an advantage to them to consider what their neighbors are doing, in order to confirm their own findings. Also make national systems compatible enough that travelers in your territory receive their advice from authentic national authorities where they currently are, not where they are not, by talking directly to the phones firmware not via some third part social media app that you have no control over.

So far, results have been very good, in fact excellent. Various diverse national and international bodies have considered the matter and recommended a solid suite of technologies from various vendors, which all have the asset, of both being a national system, and also being widely compatible with those of other countries.

OASIS has been tasked with compiling the collective wisdom of national authorities into a single document, called the ÂMobile Alerting Practices report. (MAP). This is neither a standard nor a directive, but an informative report for the kind consideration of national alerting programs and platform for the mutual exchange of news and views of topics of interest at the discretion of the national program.

If you have any thoughts or viewpoints on the matter of alerting via mobile networks, we want to hear about them. We warmly invite you to submit some text to us for inclusion in the next edition of the report. Comments on the report are very welcome.

Mark Wood OASIS/EMTC/CAP committee.
