As general rules, I myself would favour colons as separators (replacing "//"), commas as sub-component separators (replacing "::"), pluses to replace spaces, and all other characters that need encoding (including "+") replaced using %-escaping. The biggest problem is the "+" or "-" for whether the FPI is registered or not. We could use "reg" or "unreg", though it's slightly verbose. Similarly (but worse) "plus" or "minus".
