Subject: Intuition: How Experts Make Fast Decisions

Intuition: how experts do it.

http://www.fastcompany.com/online/38/klein.html

Interesting. We've discussed aspects of this when
considering the cognitive approach of fast decision
makers and game players. Somewhere in the Star Trek
literature is the description of the battle that made
James Kirk the youngest Captain in the fleet. He
describes a decision he made in which he could 'see
the battle forming'. Some claim this to be a 'genius'
capability yet this article insists this is simply
experience. While not coming down on one side or
the other there, it is evident that simulations based
on expert systems have the power to train (d'oh) and
that if interpersonal relationships thrive or die
based on cultural imperatives, our training systems
must have the cultural components as augmented by
near real time information.
