Subject: eContracts Spec public review

Dear TC members,

I can hardly believe that it happened. Our spec is now out for public
review. I don't know about you but I had gotten to the point were I did not
think it would ever happen. There was always another problem in front of us.

Now that its out, the significance is just starting to sink in. This really
is a big day. We can finish this.

For what its worth, I believe we have done the best we could in a very
difficult environment. We have done something that could be really
worthwhile if it is picked up. In reality, there is a very significant
probability that the market will ignore our work, but we won't know that
until we try. The market has no options at present for contracts and other
legal documents and there is a massive lack of awareness of what could be.
Even so, I don't think there was any other strategy we could have followed
that would have produced anything of more general utility. The market place
is just too confused and Microsoft centric. For those who complain about
that situation, and there are many, this is the way to free themselves from
that dependence without having to try and pick the next winner.

I will be doing my bit to promote our work over the next few weeks to see if
we can drum up some interest here in Australia, at least.

Thank you all of you for sticking with this to the end.

I will send around a message next week suggesting we start the IPR
transition so we can finish this before our TC disbands.
