Subject: Candidates for At-Large LegalXML Member Section Steering Committee

Dear people,

A ballot will soon be opened for the election of persons to serve as at-large members of the OASIS LegalXML Member Section Steering Committee. It will be closed on Monday, December 19, 2005, at 8:00 p.m. Eastern (5:00 p.m. Pacific) time. Three at-large positions for the year 2006 are open for election. Those who were nominated and agreed to stand for election are indicated below (in alphabetical order), along with statements they have prepared relating to their candidacy. An "Other" option is provided in the ballot, e.g., for write-ins. Voters may vote for up to three candidates.

As I will be away from work and out of the country for the coming week, please refer any questions about this ballot or about membership in the Member Section or about eligibility to vote to the current Chair of the Member Section, John Greacen, at john@greacen.net.

CANDIDATE STATEMENTS

Candidate Statements for At-Large Positions on OASIS LegalXML Member Section Steering Committee:

Don Bergeron: "I wish to stand for election for an 'at-large' steering committee member to continue to serve the OASIS LegalXML community. Since the beginning of LegalXML I have been actively involved in the direct work on standards and in the activities needed to acquire the resources to support the TCs in their work. I have also provided advice on how to document specifications for the development to use them most effectively. Through this I have a healthy regard for the balance of pragmatism and idealism that I have found in this community. It makes it worthwhile to serve."

Tom Clarke: "I have a long-term interest in better coordination of efforts between not only the various Legal XML TC's, but also the broader OASIS standards family.  Our TC can benefit from meaningful liaisons with the other TC's in our domain and the non-domain TC's."

John Greacen: "The responsibilities of the LegalXML Member Section Steering Committee are to advocate the interests of the membership to the OASIS Board of Directors and management and to decide how the Member Section's revenues will be spent to further the activities of its Technical Committees.  During the past year, the Steering Committee has advocated for members in the areas of OASIS membership, dues and intellectual property policies.  We have been able to use our resources for technical support services and TC travel leading to the successful completion of the Member Section's first specification - Electronic Court Filing 3.0.  This will be the last year of my eligibility for service on the Steering Committee under our Rules of Procedure.  A major task will be to assist another Steering Committee member in assuming the role of chair."

Thank you for your participation in this election.

Your obedient servant,

Roger
