Subject: Feedback from Louis Cotgrove
This is feedback from Louis Cotgrove, cotgrove@ids-mannheim.de, a dictionary software engineer at Leibniz-Institut fÃr Deutsche Sprache in Mannheim, Germany. Louis didnât want to go through the motions of signing up for this mailing list etc. but he has given me permission to submit his feedback on his behalf and he has agreed to the OASIS Feedback License.
My initial impression is that DMLex is a very worthwhile project - it seems very computer and human-friendly and most importantly, it is digital-first, rather than print-first (like Lex-0), which makes far more sense for a field in which lexicographical resources are increasingly digitally native, and increasily more digital projects are attempting to host multiple lexical resources and feature some kind of facetted search function, e.g. Text+ or ZDL.
I have a few queries/suggestions, which hopefully can be of use for the project:
Do you plan on having controlled values for Types/TypeTags? Similar to DataCiteâs relationType. Without controlled values, I can see the interoperability between resources suffering
Is a unique definition or headword really required? I can foresee some use cases where this could be desired - can uniqueness be controlled by the entryID?
I donât quite understand the purpose of sense > indicator. Perhaps it needs to be more clearly differentiated from either definition or label
Can there be an option for a uri tag at the entry and sense levels? I can foresee use cases (such as an abbreviated version of a resource that links to the full text, or for citations), where this would be useful. I see this might be covered by the linking module, but this seems more complicated for me as a potential user
Finally, on p.13 of the PDF, it says uri is required but the text says âzero or oneâ - is that not then optional?
I hope this helps in some way.
