OASIS issues Call for Participation in new ebCore TC

All interested parties are invited to participate in the new OASIS ebXML Core
(ebCore) Technical Committee. This group will manage clarifications,
modifications, and enhancements for ebXML specifications that are completed or
transitioned to it. The ebCore TC may also produce new conformance profiles and
adjunct documents complementing existing specifications. It will explore
synergies with UN/CEFACT, WS-* specifications and SOA best practices. TC
proposers include representatives of Axway, Boeing, Fujitsu, and others. A TC
chair or two co-chairs will be elected at the first meeting, which will be held
by teleconference on 4 April.

OASIS issues Call for Participation in new ORMS TC

Members of OASIS have formed a new TC to develop a system that provides the
ability to use common data formats for representing reputation data and
standard definitions of reputation scores. The OASIS Open Reputation Management
Systems (ORMS) TC will not define algorithms for computing the scores; however,
it will provide the means for understanding the relevancy of a score within a
given transaction. ORMS TC proposers include representatives of OASIS
Foundational Sponsors, IBM and Sun Microsystems, and OASIS Sponsors, Booz
Allen, Cordance, Google, NRI, VeriSign, and others. The first meeting of the
ORMS TC will be held 1-2 May in Santa Clara, California in conjunction with the
OASIS symposium, Open Standards 2008: "Composability within SOA." A TC chair or
two co-chairs will be elected at this meeting. New participants are welcome.

OASIS Standard ballot on WSRP 2.0 opens soon

The OASIS Web Services for Remote Portlets (WSRP) TC has submitted WSRP 2.0 to
be considered as an OASIS Standard. WSRP enables an application designer to
select from a rich choice of compliant remote content and application providers
and integrate them with just a few mouse clicks. WSRP 1.0 was approved as an
OASIS Standard in August 2003. This revision adds consumer-managed
coordination, additional lifecycle management, and a set of related aggregation
enhancements. On 16 March, a call for vote on WSRP 2.0 will be issued to all
OASIS member organizations. Members who wish to discuss this ballot may do so
through member-discuss@lists.oasis-open.org.

Consortium solicits feedback on proposed UOML-X TC charter

Members are asked to review and comment on a draft charter to establish the
OASIS Unstructured Operation Markup Language eXtended (UOML-X) TC. The group
plans to advance the existing OASIS UOML TC's goal of developing and
maintaining an XML-based operation interface standard for unstructured
documents. The UOML-X TC will operate under the RF on RAND Mode under the OASIS
IPR Policy. The comment period for the draft charter closes 10 March.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Board approves changes to OASIS TC Process

Several modifications to the OASIS TC Process went into effect on 1 March.
Among them is the requirement that a TC must designate one of the three
required specification formats (editable source, XHTML/HTML, and PDF) as
authoritative. The TC Process also better clarifies timing constraints related
to a TC's first meeting. TC chairs are asked to familiarize themselves with
these changes and contact Mary McRae with any questions.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
UBL TC forms Adoption Subcommittee

Members of the Universal Business Language (UBL) TC have formed an Adoption SC,
which will provide editorial guidance and support for an upcoming XML.org Focus
Area. UBL XML.org, an online community web site, will feature a wiki
knowledgebase, products and services directories, news, event calendar, forums,
blogs, and more. The UBL Adoption SC is chaired by Ken Holman, and new members
are welcome.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Early-bird discount ends soon for Open Standards 2008 symposium

Register by 17 March to receive a 100 USD discount off the OASIS symposium.
This year's event, which will be held in Santa Clara, California, 28 April - 1
May, will address the various technical and business facets of composability in
SOA. It's an opportunity for both researchers and business practitioners to
state their challenges, best practices and experiences. It will also be a forum
where technology architects provide a fair assessment of the current status of
composability standards and implementations, including opportunities for
improvement and potential obstacles. Additional group discounts are available
for companies that send three or more delegates.

OASIS announces program for ebXML Workshop in Rome

On 21 April, OASIS will present a half-day ebXML Workshop in conjunction with
the UBL International Conference in Rome, Italy. The workshop will explore some
of the latest ebXML deployments, discuss synergies between ebXML and UBL, and
provide an overview of the current state of the ebXML OASIS Standards. There is
no charge to attend this workshop; however, UBL International Conference
registration is required.

Axiomatics becomes newest OASIS Sponsor member

OASIS welcomes Axiomatics to Sponsor-level membership in the consortium.
Axiomatics develops flexible access control products and services based on
XACML 3.0. They are one of the participants in the upcoming XACML OASIS Interop
demo.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Members prepare to demo XACML interoperability at RSA Conference

In San Francisco, 7-11 April, nine organizations will come together to
demonstrate interoperability of the eXtensible Access Control Markup Language
(XACML) 2.0 OASIS Standard. Simulating a real world scenario provided by the
U.S Department of Veterans Affairs, the demo will show how XACML ensures
successful authorization decision requests and the exchange of authorization
policies. Participants include OASIS Foundational Sponsors, BEA Systems, IBM,
and Sun Microsystems, and OASIS Sponsors, Axiomatics, Cisco, Oracle, Red Hat,
and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Adobe donates meeting collaboration tool for TC use

Adobe Systems has made a hosted version of its Acrobat Connect freely available
to all OASIS TCs. Acrobat Connect can be used to set up meeting rooms to share
documents and collaborate in real time through built-in chat and speaking
queues. Chairs interested in using this tool for their TCs may request an
account by contacting mary.mcrae@oasis-open.org. OASIS gratefully acknowledges
Adobe for this contribution. Other companies that wish to donate resources to
the OASIS community are encouraged to contact communications@oasis-open.org.
