OASIS News
7 March 2006

Welcome to OASIS News, a weekly update of announcements, accomplishments, and activities for the international standards consortium.

Consortium Issues Call for Participation for New OASIS ODF Adoption Committee

Several OASIS members are collaborating to provide expertise and resources to educate the marketplace on the value of the
OpenDocument Format (ODF) OASIS Standard. By raising awareness of the benefits offered by this open file format, the new OASIS ODF
Adoption Committee will work to increase the demand for and availability of ODF-conforming products, resulting in a greater choice
of tools and platforms and expanding the ODF community of users, suppliers, and developers. The new group will work closely with the
OASIS OpenDocument Technical Committee to align market-based requirements and help guide future enhancements to the standard. The
first meeting of the OASIS ODF Adoption Committee will be sponsored by IBM and held via teleconference 28 March. All interested
parties are encouraged to participate.

BCM, SPML, and WSRF Submitted for Consideration as OASIS Standards

The OASIS Business Centric Methodology (BCM) TC, the OASIS Provisioning Services TC, and the OASIS Web Services Resource Framework
(WSRF) TC have submitted specifications for consideration as OASIS Standards. BCM v1.0 defines methods to acquire interoperable
e-business information systems within communities of interest. Service Provisioning Markup Language (SPML) v2.0 provides an XML
framework for managing the provisioning and allocation of identity information and system resources within and between
organizations. WSRF v1.2 defines an open framework for modeling and accessing stateful resources using Web services. Members should
familiarize themselves with these specifications prior to balloting, which opens on 16 March.

OASIS Announces Symposium Program

With a primary focus on e-Government and e-Business applications, the 2006 OASIS Symposium will investigate the different facets of
interoperability, their dependencies, the enabling technologies, standards and practices and opportunities for improvement. The
three-day event features invited presentations, high-level panels, poster presentations, tutorials, and workshops all aimed at
uncovering future interoperability opportunities and challenges. Peter J. Quinn, the former CIO of Massachusetts, and Randy Heffner,
Vice President of Forrester's Application Development & Infrastructure Research Group, will provide keynotes. Early-bird
registration for the Symposium ends 31 March.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Expand Opportunities for Standards Development Within OASIS

Through the OASIS Member Section program, established groups are able to transition their standards development to OASIS, gaining
access to our open process, international membership base, and related technical work, while retaining independent governance and
identity. OASIS members help staff identify groups that might be potential Member Sections. By consolidating standards development
within OASIS, members maximize their own resources, minimize expense, and streamline the logistics involved in participation,
including corporate review of membership agreements and IPR policies. OASIS members are encouraged to review the standards groups in
which their organizations are currently involved, and contact member-services@oasis-open.org with any suggestions.
