Test Assertions Model 1.0 becomes OASIS Standard

The Model specifies the structure and semantics of a measurable _expression_ for evaluating the adherence of an implementation to normative statements in a specification. Congratulations to the Test Assertions Guidelines TC chair, Jacques Durand of Fujitsu, and to all TC participants including representatives of Axway, Fujitsu, Oracle, and US NIST for this accomplishment.

OASIS Standard vote opens for AMQP 1.0

The Advanced Message Queueing Protocol (AMQP) is a wire level messaging protocol that supports common middleware messaging interaction patterns: messaging, request/response, publish/subscribe, transactions, and store and forward. It allows middleware applications to communicate with each other without requiring the same infrastructure on both ends (i.e. it provides vendor neutral communications). AMQP 1.0 was developed by OASIS Foundationals, Microsoft and Primeton, and Sponsors, Axway, Kaazing, Progress Software, Red Hat, Software AG, VMware, Zenika, and others. All organizational members of OASIS are encouraged to vote on AMQP before 29 Oct; those who wish to discuss the ballot may do so through oasis-member-discuss@lists.oasis-open.org.

Members propose CloudAuthZ TC

All interested parties are asked to review and comment on a draft charter to establish the OASIS Cloud Authorization (CloudAuthZ) Technical Committee. The goal of CloudAuthZ is to enable greater control of the way cloud computing resources are used by allowing authorization policies to be enforced closer to the consumer. It will define a generalized model for context-based authorization--knowing when and where users are, what they are doing, which device they are using, etc., and applying this information to authorization decisions. TC Proposers include Sponsors, Axiomatics, Intel, Quest, RedHat, Sailpoint, and Yaana. Abbie Barbir of Bank of America serves as convener. The member comment period for this draft charter closes 17 Oct.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Members propose Privacy by Design TC

All interested parties are asked to review and comment on a draft charter to establish the OASIS Privacy by Design Documentation for Software Engineers (PbD-SE) Technical Committee. The group will define governance and documentation standards where privacy is built directly into the design and operation, not only of technology, but also of operational systems, work processes, management structures, physical spaces and networked infrastructure. Dawn N. Jutla, PhD, of the Sobey School of Business, Saint Mary’s University serves as convener. The member comment period for this draft charter closes 17 Oct.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
XACML 3.0 public review begins

eXtensible Access Control Markup Language (XACML) 3.0 defines a core XML schema for representing authorization and entitlement policies. The public review ends 7 Dec.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KMIP 1.1 public reviews begin

The Key Management Interoperability Protocol (KMIP) establishes a single, comprehensive protocol for communication between enterprise key management servers and cryptographic clients.
The public reviews for KMIP Specification 1.1 and for KMIP Profiles 1.1 both end 10 Dec.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Web Services Secure Exchange (WS-SX) TC publishes errata

WS-Trust 1.4 Errata, WS-SecurityPolicy 1.2 Errata, and WS-SecurityPolicy 1.3 Errata document errata for extensions to the WS-Security OASIS Standard. Congratulations to WS-SX TC members including Foundational Sponsors, IBM, ISIS Papyrus America, and Microsoft, and Sponsors, Axway, CA Technologies, EMC, Fujitsu, Nokia, Novell, Oracle, Ping Identity, Red Hat, SAP, Software AG, TIBCO, and the US Veterans Health Administration on this accomplishment.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
European Union broadens policy to include industry consortia

The Council of the European Union adopted new rules to broaden outreach and collaboration among European member states and agencies, de jure standards organizations, and industry standards consortia including OASIS. The new policy explicitly embraces the use of appropriate consortia standards for public procurement and the inclusion of established global consortia in official programs and grants. It amends several directives, removing implications of exclusivity for de jure standards.
