Subject: RE: Voting member status update

All, as the only person who agreed to round robin myself in order to be able to attend this TC I am looking for a a status that is a little more lenient. I am double booked and this slot. I am also not able to see any place to record my attendance.

Thanks for your consideration.

Ram, Barabara,

A couple of people have asked me about the “Persistent Non-Voting Member” category, so I’ll reply to the list.

It sounds like a “naughty boy, stand in the corner” category but it is actually a good compromise for those who wish to remain active on the TC – contributing, posting and reading posts – without being a full, voting member.

Firstly, to explain that the difference between a Member and Voting Member is determined automatically at the end of each meeting;

-          If you attended the previous two meetings as a Member, you are ‘promoted’ to or remain a Voting Member;

-          If you miss two consecutive meetings as a Voting Member, you are ‘relegated’ to Member

As a Member therefore, your status can go up and down over time. This can have a major impact on TCs with large memberships and volatile participation, often leaving meetings inquorate and slowing proceedings.

If you don’t want (or aren’t able) to participate regularly in meetings; want some stability in your TC status; don’t want to be an Observer (with no right to post to the list, for example); and – most importantly – don’t want your inattendance to have an impact on meeting quorum, then opt for this Persistent Non-Voting Member status.

If you want this, you need to ask one of the Chairs (when you join a TC, you can do so currently only as Member or Observer).

Regards,

Peter
