Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Commented: (ODATA-468) Define explicit concepts in ABNF for referenced sets of rules

    [ http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/ODATA-468?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=34535#action_34535 ]

Ralf Handl commented on ODATA-468:

There are a few minor differences between our ABNF and XML Schema 1.1:
- Boolean: we only allow true and false, XML Schema also allows 1 and 0
- Double/Single/Float: we only allow INF, XML Schema 1.1 also allows +INF (XML Schema 1.0 did not allow this)

We'll have to decide whether to stay more restrictive or not. I'd opt for staying restrictive in the first case, and aligning in the second case.

> Project: OASIS Open Data Protocol (OData) TC
> Issue Type: Task
> Components: OData ABNF Construction Rules, OData CSDL
> Affects Versions: V4.0_CS
> Environment: [Proposed]
> Reporter: Michael Pizzo
> Fix For: V4.1_WD01
> There are a few places today where we reference things like "xxx" rule in the ABNF. That is, a set of rules that match a particular pattern.
> For example, [CSDL] contains the following text:
> "Default values MUST be represented according to the xxxValue rule defined in [OData-ABNF] that is appropriate for the type of the property."
> Which is intended to mean the "unprefixed primitive literal values". However, users looking at the documentation won't find "xxxValue" and, in fact, won't find "xxxValue" rules for some of the primitives (for example, there is no "StringValue".
> Also note that constant expressions reference the xml schema serialization rules, rather than the rules in our ABNF (which are hopefully equivalent?). To make sure we are in sync, documents should reference the primitive value serialization defined in the [ABNF], which should reference xml schema as appropriate.
