I'd leave this to the service. Some services may disallow it, others may just remove the singleton from the entity set and keep it alive as a pure singleton.

Or we can choose not to allow this as a workaround exists: use an intermediary entity as the singleton that has a to-1 navigation property to a member of an entity set.
