First, let's make sure we're using the same language, because people
often mean different things by "logo" and "icon". I'm attaching two
images, "od-logo.png" is what I mean by logo and "od-icon.png" is an
example of an icon for the spreadsheet file type. An icon is the picture
on the desktop that you click on.

I think we should have just one logo, and I think we shouldn't dictate
icons.

People are going to make their own icons. We can't prevent this, nor
should we. An icon-set that looks good in Windows will look ugly in a
Mac. Some users like to change their icon-set. Icons may change on the
next version of Windows (same for Linux and Mac).

We can still ask someone to make an icon set using the logo. I think
that would be a nice service. The people working on Linux would be happy
to use those icons. They'd probably make a few changes and then package
them with their distributions. That would be a way to get a little
recognition.

Personally, I'm not clear. I think that ideally they'd use the
OpenDocument icon as much as possible. Maybe we can talk to the
OpenOffice team and see if they'll change the default icons. For now
most people's first contact with OpenDocument will be through
OpenOffice. So it would help if they used icons with the OD logo on it.

I think that providing sample icons would be a valuable service.

Well, OpenOffice is currently the only option that I know will work for
everybody (the goal of those links is to let the user download a program
to read the resources we're giving them).

Best,
Daniel.
