Subject: RE: [office-comment] Describing legacy information

OK. I guess I misunerstood you. I thought you were referring to legacy
ODF settings. But this sounds like you are really talking about legacy
application settings. This is an issue with OpenOffice.org, not ODF.
OpenOffice.org writes out a <config:config-item> that uses "
UseOldPrinterMetrics" to name a setting, The element <config:config-item>
is a documented part of the standard which allows applications to store
named application-specific settings.

I'd recommend that you come up with a real-world scenario where not
knowing the meaning of "UseOldPrinterMetrics" causes an interoperability
problem, and then send that along to OpenOffice.org and ask them to
document this information, either in implementation notes, or as suggested
additions to ODF.

Since the meaning of "UseOldPrinterMetrics" is as opaque to me as it is to
you, there is nothing I can do on the ODF TC about this.

But we can look at the language around <config:config-item> in the
standard so it is clear what appropriate uses of it are.
