I can confirm that the five attributes that are proposed to become
optional attributes in Doug's proposal are indeed treated optional in
the current OpenOffice implementation.  For example, when the grouping
is done by manually selecting field members to be grouped, these five
attributes are not used when saved to a file.

So, this schema change should not break backward compatibility, at least
with OpenOffice.
