Subject: RE: [office] Maybe it is just me
Of course, once I typed "://" into the message, an in-message search for "://" finds that occurrence, and now it finds all the three occurrences here. Time to get on-topic, lots of JIRA targets for me to fix up, errata to review, ... -----Original Message----- From: Dennis E. On unquoted input, this is common for many Web search engines around the world, some quite prominent ones. The use of quotes around phrases that contain special punctuation (and spaces) is the common solution, although it is still not always the best. That is, the punctuation may be masked somehow, but at least the structure of the phrase holds together. Oddly, desktop search and the searches inside of office-productivity software seem to be more forgiving in the other direction. I can search this note for :// (no quotes) just fine, but if I give "://" to the in-note search, there are no hits. The only time I run across cognitive-dissonance with these things is when I use my desktop search that also extends to the web if I want. When the rules change from one to the next, it is weird. In fact, my desktop search refuses to find :// on my computer, whether or not I put it in quotes. But if I search for hmmz then this note and Bart's come up immediately. - Dennis -----Original Message----- From: Hanssens Bart [mailto:Bart.Hanssens@fedict.be] Sent: Tuesday, July 27, 2010 12:33 To: Patrick Durusau; ODF office Subject: RE: [office] Maybe it is just me Patrick, hmmz, it appears to be a Jira bug / feature ... http://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-12230 Bart ________________________________________ From: Patrick Durusau [patrick@durusau.net] Sent: Tuesday, July 27, 2010 9:21 PM To: ODF office Subject: [office] Maybe it is just me Greetings! Probably by mistake but while I was searching for an issue to see if I had already entered it, I looked at the text search JIRA was actually performing. Looks like JIRA splits words written with the a colon, ":" into two words. Have to enclose them in double quotes to avoid this. Gee, why would anybody at OASIS ever write a string that had a colon ":" in it? Particularly in markup standards? Or want to search for such a string? What is even stranger is that we have the major enterprise software vendors in the world as OASIS sponsors and TCs are equipped with laughable technical infrastructure for their work. Sorry, I go back to posting issues and editing. If the people paying the freight don't care, my complaining isn't going to change anything. Hope everyone is having a great day!
