I am not so sure we need to fix this. There are existing implementations that use documentsignatures.xml, and it has the advantage of being descriptive about what sort of signatures are contained within. If you make a significant change, you then get to branch code to deal with both cases, which is why I tried as much as possible to just adopt the existing approach unless there was some problem to be solved.

On the OOXML side of things, signatures are contained within /_xmlsignatures, which doesn't meet their proposed approach, either.

On one level, I'm agnostic to the change, since we don't have an implementation to branch, but I also don't need it getting more complicated if I do try to get the work approved.

We need to be careful.  Our filename is "META-INF/documentsignatures.xml" and it is not the only "META-INF/*signatures* that we allow.  Let's find out more about what their "signatures.xml" is and what is assumed about it before jumping too quickly.
