Subject: RE: [oic] Advisories 0001 First Attempt

1. I'm not sure that the serial numbering of these is helpful. It will depend on how successful the title is in communicating what it is about.

2. I suggest references to the relevant parts of ODF versions should be higher up in the advisory.

3. I do favor how this is going, although I'm not comfortable with "advisory" yet. But the fluid use of HTML and the SVN repository strikes me as very useful. (We are back to the question about status of these and whether we have to create OASIS documents based on their content at some point, so we will need to look at that and how we do it responsibly.)

4. With regard to the specific advisory trial, I suggest that the bug is assuming that anything in <p> or <h> elements is text of the document. There is a section in the ODF specification that says this assumption is permissible and that fails to list the <text:tracked-changes> element as an exception.

5. Also, I think <text:tracked-changes> should never be preserved if not supported and the markers in the main text should not be preserved either. A consumer that does not support change tracking and acceptance/rejection of changes needs to treat the document as if all changes have been accepted and the history erased. Likewise, producers that do not support tracked changes should not produce any of the elements that are related to it.

6. I did an experiment using the test-001.odt document, opening it in Word 2007 SP2 as an ODF document. The change tracking is not supported and the document is correctly shown in the manner that I mention in (5). When I updated the document, using Word, to make test-002.odt, I had enabled change tracking and showing in Word and that worked for my new changes. When I saved the document as ODF, however, I was given the usual warning about features not being preserved. Indeed, the change tracking was not preserved in the ODF document, test-002.odt, that was saved.

7. The document test-002.odt was opened in OO.o 3.2 to confirm that there were no tracked changes whatsoever in test-002, not even the ones from test-001. You can see that only the new changes made before saving as test-003.odt are there.

8. I didn't update the HTML file to reflect these additional test files. But they are in the Advisories/00001/ folder of the repository.
