FYI, I am submitting the following
abstracts. I’ll submit them now, before I fly across the pond, but
if someone has some suggestions (hopefully fine tuning), you can send them to
me. I’ll look for the email when I get home this evening and make
changes to the submission, if any are required.
I’m hoping that BOF submissions are
evaluated by different people from main tent sessions, since these two
descriptions are very similar.
2b) (Technical Session) SCA Infrastructure
Configuration: Security and Transactions
[Mike’s suggested title was longer
than the maximum 75 characters]
Enterprise Java developers have long known
the advantages of letting the container manage security and transactions.
SCA has taken the concept of a container-managed capability and expanded it
into a general purpose policy framework. The framework supports security
and transactions, but can also support message reliability, WS-I compliance or new
capabilities that are provided by an extension developer. Also, these
capabilities are not only available to Java components, but, like everything in
SCA, can be used with components written in other languages or technologies.
This talk will describe the general purpose policy framework and will show how
simple it is to create applications with security, transactions, reliable
messaging and other policies by using this approach.
[The submission of this presentation
proposal was coordinated by the OASIS OpenCSA Member Section Steering
Committee]
3b) (BOF) SCA Security, Transactions, Reliable
Messaging and Other Policies
This presentation will describe how
applications can use the SCA Policy mechanism to configure their SCA
applications to use the security, transactions and reliable messaging.
The approach removes many of the complexities of using these enterprise features
from the developer through the use of simple declarations that list the
policies that are needed. The approach is designed to be used by
components that are written in a variety of programming languages, and is also
defined to be independent of transport protocol. We will look at several
examples that illustrate how these policies can be used in the most common
scenarios that need transaction, security and reliability policies. We
will also look at how new policies can be created that allow extension developers
to define additional capabilities that can be provided by the container.

proposal was coordinated by the OASIS OpenCSA Member Section Steering
Committee]

Potential Sessions for Java One for SCA, SDO
Sanjay,
The
intention of my initial email was to promote discussion - looks as if it has
achieved that!
The
idea is to agree a set of proposals for JavaOne and then to parcel out the
work. Ideally, 2 or 3 presenters from different companies
will
be involved in each session.
Dealing
with your suggestions in reverse order (why be straightforward?):
e)
Session on SCA and Enterprise Service Bus.
Sounds
good. Can we work on the content for this a bit more? I'd be happy
to be involved.
Do
you have specific ESBs in mind?
d)
SCA and Java EE
OK,
great. It would be excellent to include what I hope will be an agreed 1.0
spec in this. Plus demos.
c)
I propose AJAX/ Web 2.0 and SCA since there has
been some excellent stuff done in this area in
Tuscany.
I
believe that there will be a lot of interest in this subject and there will be
real stuff to show. If OpenCSA
does
not want to go down this road, then I think the Tuscany guys will submit this proposal
instead. If
Fabric3
or any other groups want to contribute to this talk, that is fine - I'm not
trying to be exclusive.
b)
and a) - the doubling of sessions on Policy stuff and Bindings was deliberate
on my part. It is wise to
have
a spread of main tent sessions and BOFs. Not all the main tent proposals
will get accepted. The
BOFs
give an alternative venue for some of the important aspects of SCA. If
both get accepted, then
they
can be tuned - for example the BOFs can show more hands on examples.
I'm
not against adjusting the content of the various sessions and BOFs, but the
idea of having a spread
of
both types should not be lost.
One
that I did consider but rejected is the idea of ".Net / Java Integration
using SCA" - but perhaps there
is
enough interest in this from the OpenCSA community to consider making such a
proposed session. Thoughts?

RE: [opencsa-ms] Potential Sessions for Java
One for SCA, SDO
|
|
Hi Mike,
Thanks for taking the initiative on behalf of the Open CSA
Member Section to compile the list of potential Java One sessions. I am
assuming that your intention here was to arrive at a general (independent of
which company is presenting) list of the SCA/SDO session proposals that would
be relevant to the JavaOne audience. I am guessing that after deciding upon a
good list of proposals, we will have to work out the logistics of which
companies would make the submissions, and who will be the proposed speakers,
etc. With that, I would like to make the following suggestions:
a> Instead of having two sessions (2b and 3b) on security,
transactions, etc, perhaps we should submit a single proposal for a tent
session to cover the policy framework and its usage to simplify the
infrastructure related to security, transactions and reliable messaging
b> Instead of having two sessions (2d and 3c) on the SCA
Bindings, perhaps we should submit a single proposal for a tent session to
cover all the bindings together. I think that a single session would have the
advantage of better emphasizing how SCA simplifies consumption of different
communication infrastructure via a common abstraction.
c> I wonder if there is enough common understanding among
the SCA community on the topic of AJAX/Web20/SCA in order to propose a JavaOne
session this year. I think it is premature to propose the session 2c. Perhaps
conducting a BOF session might be a good idea here.
Also ...
d> Add a session on SCA and Java EE Integration. AFAICT, a
session on this topic during the last JavaOne was well received and I am
guessing that the audience would be interested in learning the
status/advancements in this area.
e> Add a session on SCA and Enterprise Service Bus,
related use cases, benefits, etc.
We (SAP) would like to submit corresponding proposals for the
two topics mentioned above.
Comments? Thoughts?

Subject: [opencsa-ms] Potential Sessions for Java One for SCA, SDO
Folks,
Here are my initial suggestions for some Open CSA related sessions at Java One
next year
- remember we have to get submissions in by Nov 16th !
Panel Session:
1a) Building Enterprise Applications using SOA with SCA
- a discussion with panellists from the major contributors to the SCA
specifications in OASIS
Main Tent sessions:
2a) SCA: flexible and agile composition of distributed service-oriented
applications
- A general session about SCA and the composition of applications
2b) Using Enterprise Infrastructure simply: Security and Transactions the SCA
way
- A session about security and transactions. Ideally with a few working
examples.
2c) Web 2.0 and SOA: AJAX front-ends linked to
services built with Service Component Architecture
- A more practical session showing AJAX
front ends linked to services on the server built using SCA.
2d) Web services the simple way: worked example of a Web services application
using SCA
- A more practical session showing the building a Web services application
using SCA, with
the application both providing a Web service and also using Web services
2e) Handling data in Service-Oriented applications: Service Data Objects
- A discussion of SDO in general
2f) Building Business Processes: BPEL and SCA - the simple approach to sequence
and structure.
- A discussion of the happy combination of SCA and BPEL in building business
solutions - with
a worked example.
BOFs:
3a) Service Component Architecture - building composite applications
3b) SCA Security, Transactions and Reliable Messaging
3c) Communicating using SCA: Bindings for Web Services, JMS and JCA
3d) SCA and Spring - using Spring as part of larger distributed composite
applications
