The discussion was to basically have a straw poll to figure out the TC
view on how to move forward at a high level, after which specific
proposals on the approach to use can be put forward. There are
variations on how to approach the deprecation mechanics but those can be
worked through once the overall view is clear.
OK - I'm confused - you mostly reiterated what I said:

1) leave as-is for v2.40
My number 1
2) fix by changing the type
My number 3
3) fix by changing the field name and description
My number 4
4) deprecate but keep the current non-interoperable structure and
mechanism and define a new structure (new name) and new mechanism id
My number 2
5) deprecate by renaming the current non-interoperable structure and
mechanism (keeping them) and correct the type value and define a new
mechanism id for the corrected structure
I don't quite understand how this is different than your 4, my 2? This feels like your (4), but with the removal of the old structure and mechanism. So actually, not deprecating, but obsoleting the old structure and mechanism and adding a new mechanism and structure? I'm ok with adding this as a fifth option, but it needs to be reworded.

[My definition of deprecate is "don't use this for new stuff, it's going to be phased out, but we're not quite ready to remove it" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deprecation gets the gist. In this case, I think this falls under the second reason for deprecation in that article]

Thanks,
Tim.
