Subject: RE: [plcs-dex] OASIS PLCS OWL RDL

Thanks Gordon

Helpful with definitions as ever.  I will go through your comments shortly.

Please be aware that RDL display shows all the modellers RDL. These have not been rationalized and are very much work in progress.

One observation though, is that you seem to be looking at an out of date file.

I have changed the XSL that displays the RDL so that it shows the version information of the file

E.g.

Class Concession (file: plcs-rdl-rbn.owl V1.15 2004/09/03 06:53:55)

Definition:

A Concession is a class of Approval_assignment and whose members have the role of a concession. A concession is the approval to perform an activity or use a product when there is some variance from the design.

I have also used the terminology dictionary provided by Carl Wilen.

I notice in there that there are DRAFT terms and approved terms. I also note that “Concession” is in DRAFT and Variance is “Approved” This does not tell me that I should not use Concession – just that it is draft. The definition of  Variance in the data base is:

“A departure from the design intent as reflected in the Assured product and support information.”

This is not the same as

PLCS TD DefinitionAn approved departure from a specified requirement.

NOTE: A variance does not require a corresponding revision to current approved product definition information, it may be temporary, permanent or for a specific use.

Furthermore, I have not found “variance” as a defined term in the PLCS AP or modules.

Where did you get your definition from?

The other observation is that the reference data is more than a definition of terms. It is defining a class and the definition should specify the necessary conditions for membership of that class. Furthermore, it is defining a semantic extension to the PLCS model. So in the case of concession, I am saying that the concession is a sub class of Approval_assignment, where approval_assignment  is a PLCS entity.

Regards
Rob

Hi Rob,

Just had a quick look at the contents of the current RDL. I cut and pasted into 'word' a few of the interesting ones and attach some comments.

It looks as if it will take some dedicated people to get this up and running.

Ho Gordon
