Subject: RE: [plcs-dex] Minor GI Issue
It might be, or it might not… GI works on the AP239 long form, which
allows product_version. The fact that we in template parameter definitions have
the ability to narrow the scope to subtypes is at the moment not reflected in
the implementation in GI. Should it be? Yes, as long as what we
define in parameters are consistent with what is in AP239, i.e. when it is limiting
AP239. But that would need to be checked. Nothing prevents us from defining using
another select in the parameter than what is in AP239, and that should not be
allowed. So I think the implementation in GI is simply relying on AP239,
disregarding whatever the parameter is defined as. But if we could have a reliable check that
the definition of the parameter does not break the express, then I would prefer
if GI would rely on the parameter definitions instead! I will forward the issue to The Man. Peter From: Tim Turner
[mailto:tjt@lsc.co.uk] Rob, I think this is perhaps a (minor) issue against
the Graphical Instance implementation? If I create a template which has an input parameter set
to a specific express entity type (which exists within a subtype - supertype
express hierarchy), I would expect that GI would respect this constraint on the
allowable entities that can be assigned to that parameter. Instead, it appears
to provide the supertype by default and ignores the type constraint specified
on the input parameter list. For example, if I were to specify Part as the type of a
parameter I would expect to see Part (or Part + any subtypes) in the GI model
during population. Instead it gives me Product and all the subtypes of Product,
including Part, Document and all the other subtypes. Representing_document_history is an exmple on dexlib at
present. You can see that the parameters specifically state that two
document_versions are to be used as the input parameter types, yet GI
provides Product_version.. regards, Tim ************************************************************************* This message contains information that may be privileged or confidential and is the property of Eurostep Group.
