Subject: RE: [plcs] Workshop #1 " "Synchronise work on DEXs and reference data between PLCS pilots and OASIS/PLCS"

Title: Message
Trine,

As I will not be at the workshop, here are a few comments/questions for consideration.

On "Proposed deliverables from the workshop: Documentation of"

1) Is the "Documentation of Architecture" deliverable aimed at documenting the current DEX/RDL architecture or is it something else? Either way, who is the intended audience for the deliverable?

2) What exactly is a "Mapping rule"? The word mapping usually implies a source and target are involved. If a DEX is the target, as you cannot know the terminology or scope of legacy systems what would be the source? The example "Mapping rule" from Page 3 simply looks like the kind of text already in the DEXs. The one addition is Figure 4 which I don't think I understand. Is the intent to document a set of industry-specific terminology and then show how that's represented using PLCS? If so, then won't that make the DEXs also industry-specific? I thought the intent was for the DEXs to be more neutral and that the RDL was where industry-specific semantics would be handled.

Under "Architecture"

3) What does "Possible quality rules should also be part of the translator" mean? If there are quality rules, shouldn't they appear in the DEX and the translator is then developed to implement a translation conforming to those rules? Is that what the statement really means?

4) On the example for parts lists and drawings, should it be renamed to "Equipment parts list documents and drawings" as it appears the parts list structure itself is not exchanged using PLCS even though it could be. It's hard to tell though as the diagrams are a bit vague.

Hope these are helpful,
David

All.
Please find attached some background information for the workshop in London 30 September – 1 October. It is proposed to use the business concept “Equipment part list and drawings” as basis for the discussions as we see this as a central concept for maintenance.
