Subject: RE: [plcs] Meeting on PLCS and 1000D Harmonization
Carl,
I share your concern over the DNV/Corena initiaitve,
which is why it is on the OASIS PLCS TC agenda
for discussion on 12 June.
The only way that PLCS
DEX specifications are going to be developed is through projects and other
initiatives, which will inevitably take place under a range of management
structures.
The OASIS TC does
provide a forum for bringing together the various initiatives related to PLCS
DEX development, and while it is always possible to further optimise
harmonisation of a wide variety of efforts under different management structure,
I am reasonably satisfied that the key players are mutually aware of each
others' activities and are cooperating effectively. They are all
represented in the DEX development project core team, for example.
It is therefore most
appropriate that Leif acts as one of the links across the various initiatives
that you mention. This is fully in line with the recommendations for DEX
developers on our home page.
Additional direct
participation from TPSMG member organisations would always be welcome. Jim
Colson from LOGSA has acted as a conduit for information on the S3000L
work, where no ASD particiant has been available for discussion.

The attached invitation to an PLCS-S1000D seminar the
27 June is not sponsored nor supported by TPSMG (and as I
understand it not by ASD, AIA or ATA).
Unfortunately to many costly "harmonization" activities
are taking place in parallel and under different "management". And the whole
idea with the standardization is to reduce cost by having one set of
standards:
- Within PLCS, Trine Hansen (DNV) and Leif
Gyllström (Saab) are tasked to develop and finalize the generic DEXes such as
DEX3.
- Within S3000L Leif Gyllström is tasked to coordinate
the development of the data dictionary (= the LSAR data) and to assure that
S3000L and S1000D goes hand in hand.
- Within TPSMG (S1000D) we have set up a Maintenance
Task Data Task Team (MTDTT) to develop a DEX1 and DEX3 for Aerospace and Defense
business.
All these activities will be coordinated by Leif
Gyllström under the MTDTT initiative to minimize duplication. The PLCS activity
will be the baseline for the business versions of DEX1 and DEX3 and the
S3000L data dictionary will be one input to the two DEXes as well. Luckily Saab
has now got a task from the Norwegian Defense to finalize the DEX1A&D and
the DEX3A&D as a part of a PLCS repository project. Thus we are now prepared
to kick-off the MTDTT immediately after the vacation period (Prel dates 4-6
Sept). The details will be presented and agreed at at the next TPSMG meeting in
Paris on 26-27-28 June.
Note 1: The S3000L data team meet on the 26-27
June (participation from ASD, AIA and US LOGSA. The S3000L project is
an ASD/AIA project.
Note 2: Very few S1000D, S3000L and DEX3 experts will
be available for the seminar as we expect these to attend the S3000L and S1000D
meetings.
Best regards
