Subject: RE: [regrep] Current Barriers to *Widespread* Adoption of XMLRegistries
First it is required to be a little more precise in our terminology. Right now, as far as I know, there are only TWO *implementations* (open source and YDS). As far as *deployments* go, you are probably correct that there are less than 15. Some barriers I can think of: -Relatively few organizations are confronted (yet) with the problems addressed by it. -Of those few organizations dealing with those issues, even fewer are aware of it and that it can help. -No *major* vendor offering it or offering to provide support for the OS impl. cheers pk -----Original Message----- From: Chiusano Joseph [mailto:chiusano_joseph@bah.com] Sent: Sunday, October 05, 2003 9:55 AM To: regrep@lists.oasis-open.org Subject: [regrep] Current Barriers to *Widespread* Adoption of XML Registries A few months ago I posted something here on the Registry TC listserv on the subject of current ebXML Registry implementations. The overriding sentiment was that there are currently a low (let's say "low" means less than 15) number of implementations, but we foresee this growing. Taking a step back from ebXML for a second: I think it's fair to say that today in October 2003 there is a lack of widespread adoption of XML registries - that is, we cannot say that "everyone is using them". If one does not agree with this sentiment that's perfect fine in my eyes - but for those that do (or are inclined to for purposes of this thread): what do you believe are the barriers to widespread adoption of XML registries? Thanks for your insight, Joe
