I have been thinking for a while to define a mockup layer on top of Relax NG which would have a semantic closer to WXS than the current Relax NG patterns. I am not sure if there is a real benefit for the users, though! It's unfortunate, but the best thing to do if you need to be able to define both a WXS and a Relax NG schema for a new vocabulary is to start designing it with WXS since you will allways be able to derive a Relax NG schema while the opposite is not true. In other words, if you want to be compatible with both technologies, WXS will be the limiting factor and you need to take it into account first.
