Subject: Re: [sca-policy] ISSUE 52: Policy algorithm gets required intents from whatinterfaces definitions/declarations? - Proposal updated

Ashok,

Other folks can correct me if I've got this wrong, but I believe that the basic idea relating to Intents is that
they cannot be overridden.

So if an intent is attached to some artifact, like the service S of some implementation I, for sake of argument,
then no matter how that artifact is composed and used, the intent cannot be removed.  So this means in
this case:

- if the implementation I is used by some component A, then the service S of component A also has that
intent applied to it

- if the service S of component A is promoted by a composite service CS, the intent applies to CS

- if the composite containing CS is itself used as an implementation of some higher level component
HC, then the corresponding service of HC, HCS, also has that intent applied....

So, yes, these kind of intents do indeed "flow upward" as implementations get (re)used, all the way
up to the Domain, assuming that the low level entity (service/reference) gets promoted all the way
up to that place....

Do you think that this is problematic?

Yours,  Mike.

Mike:
A question of clarification.  If I understand your proposal correctly,
intents flow up the implementation hierarchy.
Thus, an intent attached at low level of the implementation hierarchy
will flow all the way up to the top.
If it does that, it applies to everything below the top node.  Is this
what you want?
All the best, Ashok
