CQL BNF
The latest round of messages on the SRU list, between Tony and Adam, leave us comfortable that they will work out the problems, and so we will leave it to them.

Versions and Explain
The approach we like is that an explain record will point to other explain records. Foremost, an explain record will announce the version of the sever that it pertains to. Then in addition it may point to other servers, indicating their paths and versions.

Furthermore we can provide for discovery of explain records in the same manner that OpenSearch provides for discovery of OpenSearch description files. However OpenSearch accomplishes this only because there exists a mime type for an OpenSearch description file (application/opensearchdescription+xml). So we would need a mime type for an explain file. The suggestion is that application/sru+xml could be used, the reasoning being that that is the mime type for an SRU response, and an explain record is a form of SRU response.

Accept Parameters
We are all in agreement that we want to keep the accept request parameter (despite the recent flurry of messages on the code4lib listserv on the subject). However, the sub=parameters are a separate issue. We would like to drop them from the spec. One of them, Accept Ranges, is wrong and needs to be removed - it is a response header, not a request header, badly named, and was included as an SRU parameter by mistake, so there is no issue there, it has to be removed. But we feel it is best to remove all of the sub-parmeters. Ray will post a message to the SRU list about this.

Namespace Names
Schemas standardized in OASIS are required by OASIS to use OASIS namespace names. That is it must begin with (for our TC) "http://docs.oasis-open.org/ns/search-ws/"; so for example
"http://docs.oasis-open.org/ns/search-ws/sru-2-0-response"; is tentatively the namespace name for the response schema.

The issue is compatibility with earlier versions if we change the namespace. However, the existing namespace name, http://www.loc.gov/zing, should never have been assigned - it was assigned in error - and it cannot remain the namespace forever anyway so that makes compatibility somewhat a moot point.
