Subject: [security-jc] update on WSS proposal
JC members: I'm quite sure that you've all seen the news that IBM, Microsoft, and Verisign (with others) have proposed an OASIS TC for Web Services Security. The WSS proposal was received by OASIS this last Wednesday, and I am allowed 15 days to send out the Call For Participation. So while IBM, Microsoft, and Verisign has issued a press release announcing their submission, OASIS has no process for acknowledging its receipt and will not make any announcements regarding the TC until I send out the CfP. The proposal is currently being reviewed by the OASIS Board to determine if there are any issues we need to clear up before making the announcement. Note that the first meeting of the TC is the week after the security workshop. We had hoped that the WSS proposers would co-locate their TC meeting with the workshop, but they already scheduled the meeting facilities and elected to stay with their original plans. It is likely that the workshop will be held early in the week (26th Monday, probably, or 28th Wednesday) so workshop attendees will have no problem attending the TC meeting in SFO on the 4th and 5th. I suggest that the Security JC extend an invitation to the WSS TC, once they are formed, to select liaisons and join the JC. </karl> ================================================================= Karl F.
