Subject: Friedenthal's Metamodel Suggestion (Goals, Critical Success Factors, & Reqts)
Frank et al.,
Some suggestions from Sandy Friedenthal regarding
the development of visual models to reflect the association of Requirements with
Goals and Critical Success Factors. I posed this question to him
yesterday following our RA telecon and forwarded a copy of Frank's legend and
sample diagram. [Sandy leads the OMG SysML spec and is the OMG Chair for
the Systems Engineering Domain Special Interest Group (SE DSIG).]
I think we could produce a visual model
that leverages existing UML/SysML diagram elements together with
judicious use of stereotypes. Thoughts?

Question) Jeff
I suggest that you start with a metamodel of the basic
concepts. I believe the
BMM (Business Motivation
Metamodel) through the OMG deals with business goals and I
think critical success factors. Once you have the concepts agreed on, then you
can map a notation to it. If we used SysML like notation, we would map the
following:
OASIS
SysML Notation
Requirement
Requirement Class construct
with «requirement»
Goal Use
case
Oval with «goal»
Critical Success Factor
Property Rectangle
with «csf»
Supports Dependency
dashed line with arrowhead and «supports»
Opposes
Dependency dashed line with
arrowhead and «opposes»
Hope all is well.
