Subject: Java Specs with (normative) references to other specifications
Hello everyone, Here is a "real world" specification (in the Java World) called MSA (JSR248). MSA is a specification for a software stack for Java Mobile wireless devices. This is an example of an Umbrella specification with normative references to component specifications. Please look at the following: Page 8-9: index of normative references (to component specifications) Page 17: Normative references This is very explicit normative reference to all component specifications. It also describes compliance for the umbrella specification. Page 18-20, : optionality Though the current thinking is that "conditionality" is too advanced for our TAG recommendation, here is a real-world example of it. This section describes the optionality (mandatory, optional, conditional) of the components - that is, whether an API set must be implemented. Example of a normative statement referring to implementation of a specification Section 6.1, page 21: "The MSA Specification uses the J2ME Connected Limited Device Configuration version 1.1 (CLDC 1.1) as the minimum required Java ME configuration." Hopefully this will serve as a better model for real-world examples, rather than conjured TAs. Regards, Kevin L
