Title: Manager, E-Business Standards Development

Graphic Communications Association (GCA) seeks a Manager, E-Business Standards Development to oversee the development of vertical and cross-industry interoperability standards for e-business. This position is ideal for candidates with strong XML and e-business technical foundations, but who are looking for more in their careers. The incumbent will have the opportunity to work closely with some of the most important thought leaders in the e-business field today.

GCA is a leading non-profit, vendor neutral organization whose mission is to advance the processes of information interoperability and dissemination of knowledge by:

  • Engaging in and supporting creation and adoption of globally recognized standards for information definition and exchange
  • Developing and encouraging efficiencies in the processes of information and image management and delivery
  • Promoting understanding of the processes by conducting information activities and preparing and publishing educational materials.

Through its subsidiary organization, the International Digital Enterprise Alliance (IDEAlliance), GCA manages and supports many critical XML-based industry standards projects under way today. GCA and IDEAlliance also produce many of the leading technical conferences and expositions, including the world's largest XML conferences in North America, Europe and Australia.

GCA offers a competitive salary and benefits package.  For more information, visit www.gca.org and www.idealliance.org.

Job Summary:

Manage multiple technical standards development projects in the areas of XML, EDI and E-Business.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic and organizational leadership to GCA and IDEAlliance technical standards committees
  • Provide leadership and direction in creating standards development project plans, in conjunction with committee chairs
  • Provide or obtain technical expertise to contribute to the standards development process
  • Plan, schedule and facilitate technical committee meetings and phone conferences, including generation of meeting summaries
  • Author, publish, and maintain technical standards documents
  • Facilitate ongoing communications between committee members
  • Manage Internet-based group communication tools for the committees, including web sites, listserves, discussion groups, document distribution, etc.
  • Oversee administration of committees and special membership groups, including membership and billing
  • Perform other related tasks as determined by GCA / IDEAlliance management.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in managing information systems or technical standards development projects
  • Requires in depth knowledge of technology normally associated with an advanced degree and at least three years of work experience. However, the unique nature of these skills may enable the applicant to reach this level of proficiency without achieving such work and educational levels
  • Prior knowledge of or experience with XML, SGML, or EDI
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, or aptitude for, leading-edge E-Business technologies and business practices
  • Outstanding leadership and communication skills, both written and verbal, preferably in a high-tech capacity
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently
  • College degree required
