[xtm-wg] Support the XTM Marketing Activities by Becoming an XTM Founding Marketing Spons

Subject:  XTM Founding Sponsors
(Note this is different from XTM Authoring Group which will have 
their own logo and recognition for technical contribution.  Founding 
Sponsors are those who support the Marketing Effort for XTM and 
should not be confused with XTM Technical Authors!)

XML 2000 can provide many opportunities to publicize the new XTM 
Specification and open the market for Topic Maps.  Clearly this is 
important to topic maps vendors.  But public awareness is also 
important for users who want to implement topic maps within their 
enterprise.  For users, public awareness and mainstream acceptance of 
topic maps means that you will stand a much better chance of getting 
your topic maps projects funded!

Possible marketing activities for XTM at XML 2000 include: 
- Development of logos for XTM, for XTM Authoring Group members, and 
for XTM Marketing Sponsors to be used on XTM materials and on the Web 
sites of group members
- Press Release for the release of XTM
- Publication of the XTM Specification
- Press presence at the XTM announcement
- XTM presence and support for the Press reception on Tuesday, 
December 5
- Booth presence in the IDEAlliance Pavillion (Each IDEAlliance WG is 
having a Kiosk with demonstrations, as well as handouts and providing 
an opportunity to meet and greet the public.

The XTM Specification Version 1.0 is almost complete.  XML 2000 is 
less than one month away!  And the marketing committee needs to set a 
marketing plan to promote the work that has been done.  
Unfortunately, all these take monetary support!   

IDEAlliance proposes the formation of an initial group of sponsors to 
support initial marketing activities for XTM.  This initial group, to 
be known as "Founding Sponsors," will each contribute $2,500 to fund 
marketing.  This funding will support marketing activities until the 
end of Q1, 2001.  During that time, the XTM marketing committee will 
draw up a marketing budget, develop ongoing XTM sponsorship 
categories, and actively recruit sponsor members to support ongoing 
XTM marketing activities.

XTM Authoring Group Logos (as determined by participation and 
membership as XTM working group members) and XTM Founding Sponsor 
Logos will be used on appropriate marketing materials, publication of 
the specification, TopicMaps.org web site, and member web sites.

Since XML 2000 and release of the specification are rapidly 
approaching, we need to get commitments for Founding Sponsorships by 
Friday, November 17 in order to plan and execute marketing 
deliverables.  You can make your commitment to become a XTM Founding 
Sponsor by sending email to Paul Conn (pconn@idealliance.org).  Each 
sponsor will be invoiced for $2,500.


NOTE:  The XTM Marketing Group will determine how best to spend the 
sponsorship money.  Clearly the marketing budget must balance the  
possible marketing opportunities at both XML 2000 and KT 2001 against 
the initial sponsorship dollars collected.  This will be at the 
discretion of the XTM Marketing Group, and is not directly determined 
by IDEAlliance.  IDEAlliance can help the XTM Marketing Group 
facilitate the marketing activities by providing staff and other 
resources as needed.
