I'm partial to Mind Maps myself.  The MindMan program is very good for doing
them on a computer.  I'd like to see a combination of Mind Mapping, the Brain,
and Topic maps.  (Yes, I know about the new tm4j's brain app, but I can;t get
it to work so far - some version mismatch between the Braind sdk and the tm4j
stuff).
