Subject: [topicmaps] Interesting Legal Decision: Right To Link Upheld
This SlashDot article relates the results of 2600 Magazine's defense against Ford Motor Co.: http://www.2600.com/news/display.shtml?id=1225 (Warning, this article contains some very rude domain names that are not necessarily suitable for children.) In this case, Ford brought suit against 2600, the hacker magazine, for pointing the domain F**kGeneralMotors.com at ford.com. Ford lost the original case and has abandoned its appeals and the case has now been sited in similar cases as supporting the right to link without restriction. Quoting from the SlashDot article: '2600, ... has expressly reserved the right to point "F**kGeneralMotors.com" anyplace whatsoever that 2600 pleases -- including at the FORD homepage -- at any time whatsoever, with or without notice.' It seems like this might be an important piece of case law for the unrestricted use of topic maps. Cheers, E. -- W.
