Subject: Re: [ubl-dev] Status of UN/CEFACT XML Messages

Thanks Robert

Wow. Looks like cross industry invoice
is definitely going to need to need some
serious subsetting. I guess the standard
schema (looks like it's just draft now) is
expected soon. I attach a generated
example for it. It looks like it even beats
the UBL Order for number of possible
elements (XPaths, say) in a document. I
imagine it will have to be implemented as
subsets. Any decisions about how to
suggest people go about subsetting? I'm
guessing the local element desgin will
mean a lot more work being needed when
creating a subset, but then a lot more
possibilities for variously pruning each ABIE
perhaps depending on where it is associ-
ated in the document tree. So I can prune
SupplierAccountantPartyType differently
to other party types (e.g one can have
the additional party ID included while others
don't). Makes me wonder whether folk will
have the time/resources for such subset
customisation work though, unless they
prune all ABIEs the same somehow which
probably means using a tool and recreating
the schemas after pruning at model layer.
My option of manually editing schemas to
which I resorted for UBL subsetting seems
to be a little out of the question so it would
need a fair bit of financial resources as well
as the time resources to create a subset.
Might the same guys who created UBL's
NES and those who created OIOUBL maybe
be looking at this? BII too? Is anyone working
on subsetting these who would be able to do
this work with the masses in mind? I guess it
will be important for widespread adoption.

I'm not much into tendering area to be
concerned myself about those documents
which have already reached standard
status but I'm guessing those too will need
subset work before putting them into folks'
software. The fact they are standard suggests
it might be that someone has already started
looking at subsetting; is that so?

Best regards

Subject: [ubl-dev] Status of UN/CEFACT XML Messages

Can anyone update us on where things are at now
with the UN/CEFACT messages - I mean XML ones
- schemas - not just the models? Which messages
are available to use?

<RL>
The standard code lists and messages version 2008A are available here:

version 2008B is expected to be released very soon

</RL>

I recollect Ken and others
comparing some of the UN/CEFACT message schemas
with their UBL equivalents: how many such message
schemas are there and are they ready for use yet?

Also, maybe we should be using ubl-dev a little more
for discussing such messages since their are in the
upgrade path from UBL. How do they compare to UBL
in their usability and maturity? I'm guessing they knock
the socks of our UBL modelling work what with so
much more widespread business requirements analysis
having gone into the UN/CEFACT work over the years
but how does that affect the actual messages? Are
they better fitted to the needs of business software now
than UBL has been? Has anyone any experience of
deploying/adopting any UN/CEFACT messages?

Apologies if I'm jumping the gun here. Just keen to
see how XML ebusiness messages/documents are
developing/evolving and if the needs of the businesses
are being better and better met through all of our efforts
in UBL and then in UN/CEFACT (not that I've personally
had time, etc to contribute much the the latter,
regretfully).

Best regards

Steve
