Fast track, slow track (revisited)

I think that I've created a lot of confusion in this group by trying
to do the long-term redesign and the short-term fix in parallel.  My
apologies; I didn't understand the state of our current process.  I
still don't understand it, but I think now that we'd better fix it
before we go any further with the long-term stuff.

It turns out that Eduardo, Terry, and I are all attending the same
meeting in San Jose Thursday and Friday.  I propose that the three of
us carve out a little time to kick this around.  I suspect that many
of the questions that Terry has raised are a result of the confusion
I've caused by trying to do two things at once, and I suspect that we
will get a better discussion here if he and I can figure out which of
the points he's raised are continuing issues.
