Subject: Liaison from OASIS Web Services Discovery and Devices ProfileTechnical Committee to W3C Web Services Resources Access Working Committee

Dear Bob and Members of W3C WS-RA:

As you may know, in May, 2009, the OASIS WS-DD TC updated its charter to reflect our intention to continue our work beyond our recently approved OASIS standards (Devices Profile for Web Services [DPWS], WS-Discovery, and SOAP-over-UDP). This continued work includes, as stated in the charter, that the TC will “Update the references in DPWS to WS-Eventing, WS-MetadataExchange, and WS-Transfer specifications to reference the W3C Recommendation version of those specifications, and profile those specifications as necessary to accommodate changes included in them”. The WS-DD TC has thus taken a significant dependency on the work of WS-RA.

At our meeting in Redmond, Washington, 15-17 July 2009, the WS-DD TC reviewed the work to date of WS-RA. We appreciate the effort of Doug Davis and Mike Kaiser of IBM and Ram Jeyaraman of Microsoft to put together a balanced and objective overview presentation at our request. We were impressed by the volume of work you have already accomplished, and look forward to seeing the final products.

The WS-DD TC would very much appreciate continuing to be informed of the progress of work in WS-RA, particularly regarding the WS-Eventing, WS-MetadataExchange, and WS-Transfer specifications on which our work is dependent. We would also appreciate receiving an update on the projected timeline for the remainder of your work, including, if possible, an estimated date by which the specifications will reach a sufficient state of maturity for WS-DD to begin our profiling work as mentioned above. We thank you in advance for these reports, and look forward to a fruitful collaboration on this important work facilitated by our joint members.

Best regards,

Alain Regnier
