Subject: RE: [wss] Use Cases for the Interop Demo

Anthony & Krishna

I believe that we need to get answers to the traditional - Who, What, When, Where and Why. These are all more or less interdependent. The Where question that you and Krishna are discussing depends upon the Why as well as, to a lesser extent, the others. For example, I believe that one of the important Why's is to flesh out problems with the specification as it presently stands. I don't believe that we, the TC, have agreed on the list of Why's and their priority. Therefore, discussion of the Where should be subsequent to or concurrent with the Why. You and Krishna have zeroed in on the Why's of Interoperability, Evangelism and Exposure to potential users. These are all good goals but are these the Prime goals of the "Fest"? (Maybe using the term Interoperability as the title of the event is misleading or pejorative, or maybe not.)

	Krishna,

I understand the point as we participated in the interop last year and
looking for a ways to improve as I'm not sure we all saw the same benefit.

We should be looking for a way to show secure web service interoperability
with all aspects of WSS-Core in as may "production" type systems as
posible. The issue here is that we should be working to show
interoperability not necessarily visibility. What you have pointed out are
the goals of organizations such as WS-I security charter ("demonstrate that
different-independent-implementations can have the same common shared view
of the various elements and work together") and we should be working with
these groups not creating an independent effort.

So my point is if you truly want to show interoperability wouldn't it best
to show this at a Web services interoperability conference, I'm sure that
the proper press coverage would be there if that is what we are looking
	for.

	Anthony,

With due respect to you, I think you are missing the point. I
suggest you talk with the participants of last year's SAML interop demo
and get a feel of what we are trying to achieve here.

The interop demo is to evangelize the security substrate and
standards that constitute that layer, to the users. The Burton group
conference (and similar venues - in the US and outside US) is a better
	venue for this.

We want to increase the visibility and understanding of the
standards with the users as well as demonstrate that
different-independent-implementations can have the same common shared
view of the various elements and work together. IMHO, WS-I, which is a
specification body, understands the power of standards and does not
	require evangelization.

	cheers
