NEWS & UPDATES

Respect Network Launch

The Respect Network launch took place in London on Monday and Tuesday and included an XDI hackathon. The developers at the hackathon fell generally into two groups:

  1. Those wanting a high-level introduction to XDI.

  2. Those who wanted to look directly at the XDI2 server and coding examples.

So most of the event was about communicating the basics of how XDI works, and demonstrating the XDI2 tools. We also installed XDI2 servers on local machines and sent example XDI messages via curl.

PRESENTATIONS/DISCUSSIONS

Notation shift

Dan and Drummond and Markus met during the Respect Network World Tour to discuss the notation shift. Dan summarized the insights in the following document:

https://www.oasis-open.org/committees/document.php?document_id=53462&wg_abbrev=xdi

Basically the conclusion was to abolish the XDI DISPLAY “short notation” and the XDI/JSON “normal notation”, so that we end up with only one notation for each serialization format.

XDI signatures

Continue to discuss Peter’s updated XDI signature proposal:

https://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/xdi/201405/msg00030.html

We discussed an option to reify all types of statements using inner roots, e.g.:

contextual statement: =markus//<#phone>

signature on reified contextual statement: (=markus/)<#phone><$sig>&/&/”...”

relational statement: =markus/#friend/=joseph

signature on reified relational statement: (=markus/#friend)=joseph<$sig>&/&/”...”

literal statement: =markus<#email>&/&/”...”

signature on reified literal statement: (=markus<#email>&/&)<$sig>&/&

Markus however felt that inner roots based on contextual statements and literal statements would not work under the current rules of inner roots.

NEXT CALL

On July 4th, no XDI TC call took place due to U.S. Independence Day.

On July 11th, Drummond and Markus were not able to hold a call due to the Respect Network World Tour. Other TC members however had a call and took notes.

The next XDI TC call is on Friday July 18th.
