Subject: Introduction
Hello All. I am in the process of joining this group as a personal member to contribute what I know and assist in any way I can. A bit of personal history and reason(s) for wanting to be part... (I sent the following to Ranjeeth Kumar Thunga a few weeks ago during my investigation of the groups objectives) As you may know the area of health informatics has a (just released) xml std of HL7 (V3.0 is just about to be released in Australia). I am extremely interested in developing 'HumanML' with a focus toward incorporation into such a sytem and the resolution of issues that would cascade out of such a union. At present I am independantly investigating architype structures in healthcare, developed by Thomas Beale (http://www.deepthought.com.au), which appear to be the formalised constructors of an event driven medical encounter structure - something which I have been working on for over 15 years with my father (a General Practitioner). During the time spend developing an Electronic Health Record (EHR) for GP it became apparent that some measurments were to subjective to be recorded in the standard objective manner (eg pain, happiness, feelings of self worth, depression). The issue came down to the presentation of such recordings - they could not be made effectivly and consistantly so they could not be recorded at all with any meaning (therefore why record them?). The upshot is that from reading some of the material available on the site (esspecially the HumanML schema on Yahoo groups) I can see a formalisation for the issues presenting themselves in this portion of EHR development. If a standard is developed to interchange such information it would make the construction of an EHR, orders of maginitude easier. I am also a member of a firm that specialises in integration of e-commerce systems, as a Senior developer. I hope this gives you a better idea as to my reasons for joining this group and my ability to contributing.
